I. Dowries
A. In 1961 they were banned but they still happen quite often. And they are very dangerous. They’re so dangerous because a man will marry a woman and if the dowry is not good or big enough the husband and sometimes the in-laws will kill the woman. Dowries are so much trouble that the birth of a girl is actually mourned in a family.

B. Just about everything can be given in a dowry cash, clothes, jewelry, furniture and appliances.

II. Widow Burning
A. Widow Burning or Sati is when a woman’s husband dies in most cases she is burnt alive next to his body. But if a wife dies the husband just remarries. It is the women’s decision to be burned alive or not. But there is a debate on whether Sati should even be a choice or not.

B. The Roop Kanawar Case. It sparked up a very big debate about whether widow burning was ok or not.
