When the Life of Brian was released there was such a backlash of criticism (irrelevant now really when anyone can buy Death Metal in major shopping chains), but it is I think worthy to actually examine what people were supposedly complaining about and what they might really have found objectionable.

The life of Brian can't really be considered blasphemous since it doesn't make fun of God, Jesus or his teachings. What it does make fun of are people's attitudes to religion, the internal schisms and the bickering and arguing over pointless detail, as well as their persecution of non-believers. In that sense it makes some valid points about the organisation of religion, i.e. it can be seen as attacking the 'Church' (...
