The story “Bread Givers” introduced us to the Smolensky family. This is a Jewish family that immigrated from Russia to the Ghetto’s of New York on the eastside were many other Jewish immigrates lived. The Jewish immigrates were their new neighbors who gave them a feel of home while being away from home. Not being an easy task the Smolenski family adapted to the new way of life. The Smolenski family was not a small family. There were four daughters; the youngest was Sarah who was always told how she was no help, the oldest who worked all of the time and never took any time out for herself, and the two middle girls who were very different from one another. One of the middle girls is into her looks and the other is into her books. Sarah being the youngest had to sit back and watch all of the different events that happen with her family.
