Booker T. Washington

It was the year nineteen seventy-eight when February was declared black history month. During this month we take time out to honor those who played a significant role in the uprising of the African American community today. Although this is supposed to be a month of celebration for all black American figures in today's society we have limited this celebration to a few chosen African Americans. Many of us have no recollection of the great writer, speaker and civil rights activist Booker T. Washington one who first fought the good fight.
Born Booker Taliaferro Washington on April 5, 1856 in Franklin County, Virginia. His mother a slave cook for James Burroughs. His father was a white man and a member of the Burroughs family (1).
