Booker T. Washington vs Dubois

Throughout history leaders have tried to gain equality among the mass through various strategies and policies. Very often leaders with similar goals choose different paths and take on different views as to how a group will gain this equality. Most notable in the history of this country, the struggle for future of freedman after the Civil War brought about two leaders for African Americans, Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois. During their time the federal government turned their backs to freedman who faced Jim Crow laws which deprived them of civil and human rights. Both undoubtedly wanted to better the lives of the newly freedman and tried to answer the question most freedman had, “now what?”.
Washington was a brilliant politician who won the acceptance of both whites and blacks alike. He understood and accepted the fact of white supremacy, but also realized that blacks and whites were interdependent to each other in an economic standing. As he put it: “In all things...
