Mistreatment Towards Nursing Home Residents


In ancient civilizations, the elderly where thought to be wise and well

respected. As years have progressed, the attitudes regarding the elderly have

somewhat changed. Those that were once sought out for their experiences and

wisdom are now a nuances because of additional care that they now require. They

are placed in nursing homes, as to not be a burden on their family with the

additional care that they now require. While in these care facilities the residents

are being abused and severely neglected. Legally nursing home abuse should be

defined as the mistreatment in means of disregard for the residents well being

and the inadequate care that he or she does not get. Nursing home abuse needs

to stop. If a child would be treated as some of the elderly are being treated then

there would be cause for alarm. A person’s age should not be a factor in the care

that they receive.
