Block Schedualing

A current educational issue, which has been the topic of many discussions in school nation wide, is block scheduling. There are many different arguments, which people have with this issue and they are all worth looking at. Block scheduling is the idea of having one and a half-hour time blocks for classes and having only 4 blocks per day. This is unlike the traditional way in which schools have eight or nine shorter class periods in one day. Gordon Cawelti defines block scheduling by saying: “At least part of the daily schedule is organized into larger blocks of time (more than sixty minutes) to allow flexibility for a diversity of instructional activities.”
There are many options when it comes to changing to block scheduling. One of the many possibilities is forming four ninety-minute clocks per day, dividing the school year into two semester and making former year-long courses be completed in one semester.
