Blacks in the media

1. The first movie that I have chosen is “Bringing Down the House.” The prominent black character is played by Queen Latifah; in fact, she is one of the only black people in the movie. The basic plot is that a rich white man, “Pete,” thinks he is chatting with a blond woman online and when the “blond” shows up at his door, it is Queen Latifah, whose character is named Charlene. Charlene actually needs Pete for her lawyer. The two start to form a relationship as she convinces him to help with her legal problems, and she helps him to loosen up to achieve his ultimate goal, getting back with his ex-wife.
Charlene is definitely the main character in the movie. She is the one who has invaded Pete’s, and all of his associates’, lives. Her race plays the entire role in the storyline. All of these white people are abruptly introduced to this completely different lifestyle: speaking, dressing, and living. Of course racism is going to be introduced. Pete’s “evil” si...
