Black Hawk Down: A Sypnosis

One of the best journalistic masterpieces ever written, Black Hawk Down is Mark Bowden’s account of the longest sustained firefight involving American troops since the Vietnam War. Published in 1999, the book sold more than ten million copies within the first six months after its release. The book follows the exploits of around forty of the almost hundred soldiers that took part in the battle. A movie version came out in December of 2000, and it also won two Academic Awards in the same year. Although the movie focuses on no more than a dozen of the characters from the book, it fully manages to capture the essence of the action, emotion and the unfolding of events during the Battle of Mogadishu. Although, in the movie the chain of events are shown from a very few perspectives, the viewers barely get sidetracked from the actual story of combat as written in the original edition of the book and the movie provides an even greater understanding of the human sacrifice involved.
