Black Boy

Richard Wright was born near Natchez, Mississippi, but grew up in Memphis, Tennessee.
He is an African American. The information didn’t say anything about his educational
background. I assume he didn’t attend school because his family was poor, and he was a
black boy living in the Great Depression. Black Boy is the story of Wright’s experiences
growing up in the South.
The essay summarizes a period in Wright’s life. He moves to Chicago and lives
with his aunt in a rented room. He is very independent and dreams to have a job. Wright
takes an examination for a possible job as a postal clerk; his dream job. In the meantime he
works in a North Side care. He becomes a temporary postal clerk and writes in his
