values in “Bernice Bobs Her Hair.”
Fitzgerald is quite vivid with his use of materialism and upper class values in Bernice bobs her hair. Immediately the reader is enveloped into the upper class with the description of the country club. The party inside the “combination clubroom and ballroom” while others meander outside is a modest but distinct separation of society.
Male guests are introduced by their educational status while female guests are described by their social calendar. Casual mention of Harvard and Yale instantly brings forth an image of financial security. Introductions flow from a young lady uncomfortable with herself to a lady whom has been single f...
