Beowulf as a classic epic hero

Is Beowulf from the epic Anglo-Saxon poem, Beowulf an epic hero? In my opinion, he most definitely is. For example, he chooses to fight Grendel, a demonic monster who had killed and devoured hundreds, without weapons, claiming it would be unfair. This displays perhaps what is the most important of 'epic hero' traits, honor. Honor is defined is "Principled uprightness of character, personal integrity" or "A code of integrity, dignity and pride chiefly among men that was maintained is some societies" Beowulf clearly demonstrates this as, he did not want Grendel to be disadvantaged.
