Beloved

In Toni Morrison’s book, Beloved, she tells about a woman named Sethe, who has escaped slavery. The novel tells of Sethe’s struggles to overcome her harsh past and maintain her present. Two of the most important themes of the book are race and the past.
The issues of race and slavery dominate most of the book. Much of the novel focuses on former slaves and their struggle to keep their lives in line. The novel compares man and animal, and questions the differences between the two. It shows that black people are no different than any other people. We all face the same hardships and have hopes and dreams. The novel also questions whether people should endure injustice or fight against it.
