Aztec Mythology

The ancient Maya had a large pantheon of gods who controlled all aspects of human existence and the natural and spiritual worlds. Maya priests, but also regular people from all social groups performed religious ceremonies. In general, rituals were performed to please the gods and obtain help with hunting, fishing, the harvest, and anything else affecting the community. Most rituals followed the same pattern: fasting or abstinence to purify the body, selection of a favorable day according to the calendar, expulsion of evil spirits from the participants, cleansing of idols and alters with copal incense and the sacrifice of animals, human beings, ritual objects and blood.
There are all different types of gods, good and evil some even both. The people couldn’t please the gods, only the priests were able to explain the signs, and the mysteries of life and death. The Maya’s believed that their flat, square earth rested on the back of a crocodile floating in a big lily pond....
