In ancient history, there have been many great leaders who have saved the Roman Empire from destruction and demise. These forerunners and heroes of the Roman Empire are innumerable, but one stands out from all the rest. Augustus Caesar’s contributions to Roman history helped to shape Rome into the dominant empire we know of today. Augustus Caesar was, undoubtedly, the greatest political leader in the history of the Roman Empire.
As an adolescent, Augustus, then known as Octavian, demonstrated his leadership abilities long before having thoughts of becoming the first emperor of Rome. His strengths, features, and accomplishments as a military leader showed only a fraction of the great political skills he possessed. After the murder of Octavian’s great uncle, Julius Caesar, in 44 BC, Octavian, Mark Antony and Lepidus formed the Second Triumvirate. The three men led their armies into Rome and the Second Triumvirate was granted full power for five years...
