Assessment is very important in all areas of education, and is used for a variety of purposes. The initial understanding of assessment would be in terms of final assessment such as GCSE¡¦s and A levels. In recent years there has been a lot of attention put on the importance of continual testing in schools at certain stages - these tests are known as SAT¡¦s. The tests are carried out in all schools throughout the country, at certain key stages. The results are used to assess the knowledge of individual pupils, to compare this to other students throughout the country and to assess the performance of the schools they attend. These tests have received a lot of bad press and have placed a lot of pressure on schools to deliver the required results.
