MAESTRO Lucio San Pedro, composer of the favorite lullaby "Sa Ugoy ng Duyan" and the symphonic poem "Lahing Kayumanggi," died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday in Angono, Rizal. He was 89.

The National Artist for Music died at the Angono Medics Hospital where he was rushed before noon after he complained of chest pains.


According to Dr. Richard Villanueva, San Pedro died of cardiac arrest secondary to acute myocardial infarction.

Villanueva quoted San Pedro's personal nurse as saying that the composer had a history of hypertension and heart ailments. Just recently, he said, San Pedro survived a stroke.
