Araby

This short story, written by James Joyce, is about part of his childhood living in Dublin, Ireland. One of the attractions in Dublin at the time was the Araby. The Araby was a bazaar that sold cheap Middle Eastern merchandise. Joyce clearly remembers falling in love with a who lived on the same street as he did. This particular was disappointed because she was unable to attend the Araby. Joyce promised her that if he went to the bazaar he would bring her back something. To his disappointment James was unable to get to the Araby before most of the vendors had closed down their shops. He finds himself in the middle of the bazaar without a gift for the he wanted so dearly to impress.
