Apocalypse Now: A Rational Look The Rationality of War "[During war] order blends into chaos, love into hate, ugliness into beauty, law into anarchy, civility into savagery" (O'Brien 682). War has always been an accepted part of human nature, a destructive force that has been reiterated in the historicity of every century. In United States history one of the most controversial wars was the Vietnam War. Countless passages and movies have been created regarding this war including the movie "Apocalypse Now" and the passage "How to Tell a True War Story" by Tim O'Brien. In the passage "How to Tell a True War Story" Tim O'Brien states that a "true war story cannot be believed," through this statement O'Brien implicates the theme of rationality vs. irrationality. This theme of rationality vs. irrationality can be seen throughout the movie "Apocalypse Now" in light of O'Brien's insight as a war veteran.
