Anthem

Anthem, a novel by Ayn Rand, is a story about how the lives of humans live in a future society. In this world, technology has all been forgotten, amity and love are considered egotistic and corrupt, and intellectual question of any kind is considered fatally sin. In this society, there is no such word as “I” or any other individualistic characters. Everyone that directs to him or herself says “we” and if they are referring to another one, they say “they” instead of him or her, which is a single person. The people in this society live under a dictatorship and breed, live, and work according to its government’s orders. These inhabitants of this social order live exactly by the world government’s choice, which urges brotherhood and the common good. The narrator of this novel, Equality 7-2521 cannot gain contentment, and even though he inquiring and insightful, he is appointed the job of sweeping the streets.
