Analysis of “The Road Not Taken”
“The Road Not Taken” represents a familiar moment everybody's lives where they must make a decision. Frost however provokes his audience to step back and weigh up their decisions, as he does when he “looked down one as far as I could” which emphasizes the importance he places in not only looking at the immediate consequences but also the long term consequences his decision could have. Frost uses an extended metaphor of diverging roads representing decisions in one’s life. This is a common experience which we are confronted with every day; which choice to make and where that will eventually lead us. He uses first person which enhances the authenticity of the poet’s voice, adding a sense of personal experience of his appreciation of nature.
