Analysis of Raven

Edgar Allen Poe lived from 1809 to 1849; a family in Richmond adopted him at the age of two after his father abandoned him and his mother’s untimely death. Poe had two major addictions that would eventually lead to his downfall; drinking and gambling. Around the year 1827 he left Richmond and headed to Boston where he would do most of his writing and join the Army on a two-year term. He married his cousin in 1836. All through the next ten years, his wife's extended illness blemished his outlook on life. Poe had been employed as an editor for periodicals in Philadelphia and in New York City. His wife Virginia died in 1847 and afterward Poe became ill. A few years before his wife’s death, while struggling with her illness, Poe wrote “The Raven”.
