Analysis of My Last Duchess by Robert Browning

My last Duchess is the poem of a Duke who tells the life of his last Duchess based on a painting of her. But realty he is always mentioning himself. And even though he is of high importance, he tells it to a servant. But, though not directly, admits to being partly responsible for her death. In this poem, we explore egotistical love and how it differs and relates to First Love and Porphyria’s Lover.
The first stanza already begins to show his arrogance as he claims “that’s my last duchess painted on the wall.” By using the word “my” he is saying she is on of his possessions, and the painting was done for him.
