Analysis of "My Girl"

The Poem "My Girl" is a story, or lyrical poem, told from the point of view of an outside speaker. The poem talks about the love a guy has for his girl. We assume the speaker is a boy and the girl he is referring to is his girlfriend.
In the first stanza, the speaker uses two metaphors. "I got sunshine on a cloudy day." and "when it's cold outside, I got the month of May." In these metaphors, "sunshine" and "may" symbolize being happy an/or happiness, together with "cold" and "cloudy" representing all other things being sad.
