Analysis of Arnold Bennet’s story “The Wind”

The text under analyses is an extract from Arnold Bennet’s story “The Wind”. The author has managed to conduct a penetrating study of the child’s psychology. In the given passage he describes the first positive and negative experiences a baby-girl named Joe acquires. But what is of particular interest is that the author depicts her first steps in life not through the perception of the adults that surround her but through her own perception, the perception of a baby who is about half a year old, thus denying the idea that there is no thought without words.

The theme of the excerpt is the peculiar inner world of a child, her feelings and emotions in which the reaction to the outer world is resulted. It seems to me that by choosing this theme Arnold Bennett Wanted to stress how differently we perceive the world: children and adults.
