In act 1 both Sheila Birling and Eva Smith were introduced to the audience. Compare these characters and explain why priestly has included them?

An Inspector Calls was written by J.B .Priestley in 1945, the last year of the Second World War, the play is set in 1912, two years before the First World War. The play reflects how different people’s priorities and opinions were in 1912 as apposed to 1945. In 1912 the upper class owned Britain, many people were underpaid, prices were kept high and wages low. The group that suffered the most were working class women; the character of Eva Smith reflects this in the play. The war dramatically altered the social face of Britain in many ways, the classes were pulled together and everyone helped out, the class divide...
