An Apology
The essay by Robert Louis Stevenson titled, An Apology for Idlers portrays the idle views of the author. Stevenson believed that a person who works a nine to five job with all work and no play is the reasoning for disparage in lives of not just the life of this person, but also that of the rest of us. Reading this as a college student gives hope and a sense of relief. What I found comical of this essay is it can be used as reference when trying to explain to ones parents why one chooses to enjoy life first and have work be secondary. He points out in his writing “There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy,” this I agree with and think the people today should stop a moment and reflect upon it. The world we live in today is one of fast cars, fast Internet service and money, money, money.
