An analysis of Narrative Themes within the Horror genre, through examination of form and style



Introduction
Horror is the genre of fiction and film, which is devoted primarily to scaring an audience, who pay to witness and hear a sadistic story, aiming to shock through their exaggeration of the bizarre and grotesque. Why these films fascinate people is only based on theories. It is thought that Horror films give a rush of adrenaline that no other genre can satisfy. It could be through voyeurism, the human need to see what evil beings lurk in the darkness. It could just be through moral reasoning, to reinforce the rules (or the more excepted rules) of our society and then show the fate of those who break those rules (shown and made fun of in the teen slasher ‘Scream’). Horror tends to use supernatural motifs such as vampirism, the eruption of ancient evil, and monstrous transformation, which often derive from folk traditions, ghost stories, and the symbolism of madness. ...
