In order to discuss these journeys, we need to establish what the meaning of the word ‘journey’ indicates. In reality, a journey is travelling from one place to another using transport and is usually far away from where you began. In the film, Lester’s ‘journey’ is an internal one as he rediscovers himself and is awakened, inside. This eventually leads to physical changes of his body. (Muscles from working out due to Angela reawakening his desire for sex and therefore improving himself because of it.) His journey is about what forced him into analysing his life, how he chose to grow and his own conclusion at the end of the film which was that the ‘beauty’ he had been searching for in his monotonous life was there around him already, in his family.
