Allegory of the Cave

“it is a strange picture,” says Glaucon to Socrates, “and a strange sort of prisoners.: The prisoners have been in the cave ever since childhood.
They are chained. They have been chained from the neck so they cannot move and can only see what is in front of them, because the chains will not let them turn their heads.
There is a fire in the cave. The relation with the prisoners is that the fire is in front of the prisoners just as if the fire was a screen at a puppet show.
