The production of Brecht’s chalk circle was devised to deliver a political message whilst still providing entertainment for his audiences, “art ought to be a means of education, but its purpose is to give pleasure.” His actors were always detached from their characters and this therefore would reflect on the audience being unable to sympathise or involve themselves too much into a character and miss the message Brecht was trying to convey.
