Dangers that air bags pose to children

Air bags are a danger to children, because they sit lower in the seat therefore they are at risk of being suffocated or hurt by the force of the deployment of the bag

Infants should never ride in the front seat of a vehicle equipped with a passenger air bag.

Babies should ride in rear-facing infant seats in the back seat until they're 1 year old AND weigh at least 22 pounds.

• All children should be properly restrained in the back seat in child safety seats -- fitting their size and age -- until they're big enough to use seat belts.

Parents should check their vehicle owner's manual and the instructions provided with their child safety seat to make sure it's being used correctly.
