This part of the book started in Harry Lucas’ cabin on a remote island. Harry had brought Anne Beddingfeld there after he had found her in a tree, very hurt from a fall off of a cliff. While at this cabin, the two talked in privacy about all of the strange things that were happening ever since Anne had witnessed a murder in the Tube station in London.
While talking, Harry admitted to Anne many things about himself. First of all he was one of the two explorers (the other was John Eardsley) that was talked about earlier in the book, who had found a large amount of diamonds deep in a jungle. Quite close to that time, there was a large diamond robbery at the DeBeers’ company, which was a company in the business of handling diamonds. The people that had stolen the diamonds found out about Harry’s and his partner’s discovery, and decided to tip that they were the ones that stole the diamonds.
