African Slaves

Many African Slaves were known more as animals than people. Plantation slaves worked day in and day out picking cotton, growing tobacco or working on sugar plantations. All of the slaves did this extreme hard labor for no pay or treated adequately. Anthony Johnson and Olaudah Equiano were exceptions to the average African slave that made their experiences unique.
Africans were captured and shipped to America, West Indies, Brazil and Spanish America. About a total of 12 million slaves were captured and brought to America. One out of every twenty slaves was taken to Northern America. The Africans were stuffed in boats for six to eight weeks with little food or water and they were in such a confined area, everyone was touching everyone. Many tried to commit suicide to help save themselves from leaving their own country. Many of the blacks jumped over board to drown.
From 1699 to 1799 the amount of slaves in America increased by a large number....
