Affirmative Action

Introduced three decades ago during the Civil Rights Movement, affirmative action was an effort to give minorities and women a better opportunity in employment and education. Originally, affirmative action’s purpose was to encourage, not force, employers and educators to accept minorities and women. Politicians in Washington, however, pushed for these actions and eventually it became mandatory to allow a certain percent of these minority groups in the work place or school.
I disagree with affirmative action. I believe that affirmative action is a serious form of reverse discrimination. When whites do not treat minorities equally, it is called discrimination. What happens when white people are discriminated against when applying to a college or job? Who will protect the majority? It is not unheard of to have a majority treated unfairly. In fact, that is a more realistic definition of affirmative action.
