Affirmative Action

For decades now, local colleges and state universities have used Affirmative Action programs to increase its’ minority student population. The reason for this is the extremely noticeable gap between minorities and whites who have earned a college degree. Current statistics show that only 18% of blacks and 10% of Hispanics earn a college degree by the age of 29, versus the 34% of whites. Experts label this gap the cause of income inequality between minorities and whites, as well as the source of inner-city crime.
So where did the big fuss about Affirmative Action begin? The first real landmark which pertains to the opposition of Affirmative Action occurred on June 23rd of this year, when the Supreme Court was asked to rule in two different cases regarding the University Of Michigan’s undergraduate admissions process, as well as their Law School admissions process.
