Affirmative Action

You do not take a person who for years has been hobbled by chains and liberate him, bring him up to the starting line of a race and then say, ‘You are free to compete with all the others,’ and still justly believe that you have been completely fair.” Thus spoke Lyndon Johnson. It is because I agree that not all the holes of racism have been filled, and that affirmative action still has a long way to go, that I stand here today firmly negating the resolution regarding affirmative action.

Racism is still as widespread as it was when the civil rights acts were formed. This is evident today. For example, the beatings of Rodney King showed us how racist of a nation we still are today.
