Broken Heart and Broken Bones

It was early summer, Jenny’s birthday had just passed and her boyfriend was drinking again that night. Jenny’s boyfriend Carl was a very verbally and physically abusive man. He was 34 and Jenny was 22. Jenny also had a child on the way. That day Jenny was being extra careful so that she didn’t get beat because her baby was due any day, but there was no getting around Carl when he was drunk.

Jenny had been simply cleaning up after dinner when Carl shouted, “Why did you take my plate away?” she responded with a quiet, “because it was clear so I assumed you were finished, there is no more food for tonight anyway.” “Why do you always talk back to me woman!?” Carl got up from his chair and walked toward Jenny.
