1. According to your book, what factors are generally used to distinguish emergencies requiring an immediate response to a referral alleging abuse to neglect?
An immediate response to allegations of abuse or neglect is important in several situations. An example is if the injury is severe or abuse could have caused severe injury. Another example is if the child is in danger because of the caregiver's ability due to age, illness or ability could cause harm to a child. Likewise if the caregiver's behavior is known to cause harm or could potentially cause harm. Moreover if there is no one to protect the child or if the family may flee with or abandon the child it is considered an emergency requiring swift response.
