Abortion

Once a girl begins to menstruate she may be
instructed by a caring mother who
informs her how to care for this “gift”, a father who
awkwardly stands in the place of the
absent mother to try to explain this “mystery” of
womanhood, a girlfriend that had heard
rumors of “the curse”, or by no one at all. We can
not be there to witness each young
girls experience or to judge how accurately prepared
they are for the responsibility of
being a woman. This responsibility can indeed be
life’s greatest gift or its greatest curse.
We would like to think of pregnancy as something a
woman enters with joy and
pride, but that is not always the case. Women often
become pregnant who are not ready to
raise a child, have problems with (or an absence of) a
male partner, have a need to get an
education or keep a job, are impoverished, have the
need to care for other young children,
have health problems, have a diagnosis of fetal
abnormalities, or who have become
