A View of a Lifetime

The voices were growing so loud on the bus; I had to cover up my ears. The

eighth grade students could not wait to exit the bus and enter the hectic streets

of New York City. In the middle of the ruckus a young blond boy yelled, “Are we

there yet?” Some of the teachers laughed at hearing this comment now. Many of

the students in the back of the bus began to wake up. It had been a long haul from

the other side of the United States, where they began this trip in Tallahassee,

Florida. The bus had become our home away from home and now we were leaving

our cozy environment.

One girl started to apply her makeup. I could almost read her mind based on

her reflection in her lighted compact mirror. This girl was making plans to

impress the busy workers of the big apple. Then I glanced over to another young

fellow. He pulled out a large wad of money from his baggy khaki pants. As he

looked down at his cash, his eyes were sparkling with a...
