A very old man with enormous wings

In “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings”, Garcìa Màrquez treats the traditional idea of an angel a little differently. Garcìa Màrquez describes “his” angel as “an old man, a very old man”, “dressed as a rag picker”, with “only a few faded hairs left on his bald skull and very few teeth in his mouth”. He goes on to say that he has “huge buzzard like wings, dirty and half-plucked” (405).
In comparison to the character Seth, an angel, played by Nicholas Cage in the film “City of Angels” (1998), Garcìa Màrquez angel (The Old Man) differs in many ways but is similar in others.
