I. The novel takes place in both late eighteenth century London and Paris. The story is set with in an eighteen-year period marked by the American and French Revolutions.
II. Characters
1. Dr Alexandre Manette is one of the central characters in the book. He is a doctor from Beauvais, France who was imprisoned in the Bastille for eighteen years by the St. Evremondes, members of a noble family in France. He suffers from some mental trauma from this experience.
2. Lucie (Manette) Darnay is the beautiful and devoted daughter of Dr Alexandre Manette. She was raised in England from the age of seven thinking that her father was dead. She is the one who cared for her father. She later marries Charles Darnay.
3. Charles Darnay (St. Evremondes) is a French aristocrat, the nephew and heir of the Marquis St. Evermonde, who was responsible for the imprisonment of Dr. Manette. He renounces his family name and moves to England where ...
