A Seperate peace

Often people say that a person is responsible for his or her own actions and the result of those actions and decisions. In A Separate Peace, Finny a carefree, careless, dangerous attention seeker makes a decision that leads to his own demise.
After reading Gene’s account of the events that led to Finny’s death the reader may observe that there are three people who are all partially at fault for Finny’s death, Gene, Brinker, and Phineas. However, after examining the story closer is it obvious that Phineas is the one mostly responsible for his death. Phineas creates a club “The Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session” whose membership requires that the members to jump from a tree into a river. Phineas being the cunning and shrewd person he is bullies Gene into jumping into the river. After many meetings, “ the Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session” becomes the center of Gene...
