A Raisin in the SUn

Many people try to find a way to achieve balance in everyday life. In the drama A Raisin In The Sun, Walter Lee Younger is a black male living in 1950’s Chicago, struggling to support his growing family. Lorraine Hansberry shows how money seems to be priority in this family, but also how family pride is the way out of many bad things that may come to your family. This drama relates to the poem “Balances” By Nikki Giovanni, in a way that shows how the Younger family tries to come to balance with life itself.
As Langston Hughes says, “What happens to a dream deferred; does it dry up, Like a raisin in the sun?” This is the basis for the drama and also ultimately the basis for the Younger way of living life. The family receives ten thousand dollars from insurance by the late Patriarch of the Younger family. This seems to be a dream come true to a basically poor family living in a “rat hole”, but it causes instant turmoil. What comes of this would normally break do...
