A Raisin In the Sun

What happens when a black family moves away from the ghetto and moves into an all white neighborhood? The Youngers, an average sized black family living in the ghetto of South Side Chicago, are planning to move into a nicer all white neighborhood in Clybourne Park.
Walter Lee Younger, the head of the family, is a very emotional man who is driven by his desire to become wealthy. As one of the main characters in Lorraine Hansberry's play A Raisin in the Sun, Walter has three main character traits which have motivated his behavior throughout the story. These traits are greed, selfishness, and impatience.
Walter shows his impatience from the very beginning of the play when Ruth

wakes him up for work. Walter says, “Well, what was you doing all that yelling for if I

can’t even get in there yet?” as he was referring to not being able to get in the bathroom.
