Through out the novel "In The Time Of Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez we closely follow the four Mirabal sisters from their early childhood up until the "accident". Despite Trujilo and all the crimes Trujilo committed against the Mirabal family, in general each and every one of the girls is filled with happiness and light-hearted feelings. Especially the youngest sister Maria Teresa. However upon hearing horrible stories and living under Trujilo's monsterous shadow she gets involved in the secret resistance to Trujillo and the SIM (some type of a secret police).
