The schools in Newfoundland are required to provide a quality education for their students, including those with disabilities. These disabled students are supposed to be educated together with their fellow classmates, however, there are many factors that come into play when determining if it is possible to teach these students as it is mandated in provincial law.
One major factor is teachers’ attitudes towards the needs of the students, which often vary depending on the severity of a given disability ranging from positive when mild, to negative when severe, and accentuating behavioral disorders as the most negative.
