A&P

The Wrong Decision
In John Updike’s “A&P”, Sammy made the wrong decision because he did not think about the situation. If Sammy had thought he would not quit. If he would have waited until Queenie came back into the store. He would have had the opportunity to tell her how he felt about what Lengel the manager, had said to them. “ Girls, this isn’t the beach.” […]. Mr. Lengel probably did not mean to up set them. If the girls had not smarted off to Lengel, “ My mother asked me to pick up a jar off herring snacks” […] the story would have ended differently. If Queenie had been polite and apologized, Sammy would still have his job to this day (77).
Since Queenie’s mother asked her to stop and pick up some snacks, she had to live near by. All Sammy had to do was wait. Surely Queenie would have come back into the store. Then Sammy could have told her how he felt....
