A Midsummer Night's Dream and Othello

Shakespeare’s plays A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Othello are different in that one is a comedy and the other a tragedy, respectively. Although this is the case, there are many similarities between the two. There are various complications that arise due to the antagonists in these plays that are mischievous and/or evil. These characters leave a desperate lover competing for false love, or love that already exists. Along with this competition, extreme jealousy is initiated, and may cause certain friendships to cease. Additionally these characters prove that love can allow a true personality to be displayed. Both these plays portray the aggravating reaction that love can bring about, and the consequences which surface when jealousy takes over.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream presents how the two characters, Puck and Oberon, who closely resemble the antagonists, create unnecessary competition between characters. In (3.2.162-167), this competition is shown when Lysander states, â€...
